Pros: - The removable grilling plates come off and go on easily, and cleaning them in the sink or dishwasher is a breeze. The base unit doesn't even get dirty! - Non-stick grilling plates are sufficiently large to cook hamburgers for three or four people. - Fat drips into the provided tray with no leaking out the back or sides. - Floating hinges allow varying thicknesses of food to be held tight on the top and bottom. - Total time to cook, once unit is fully heated, is faster than broiling the burgers in our electric oven and the grill uses far less power. - Light enough to hold with one hand, for easy storing. - Unit lacks a thermometer and temperature control, neither of which is needed for most things. My husband uses this almost every day to make a burger, chicken breast, etc. I used it tonight, to make fabulous Tilapia filets which took no time and almost no effort (sprinkle w/ Emril's seasoning and grill for five minutes). THE BEST PART.... REMOVABLE GRILL PLATES! I've put these in the dishwasher and washed by hand. No problem and worlds better than the old model with the fixed plates. I'll use this appliance even more now that clean up is no longer a chore! Having someone say "This salmon was seared perfectly!" the first time you've ever made it is a great feeling! You really can't mess up with this thing. Pros: The removable plates make clean up pretty easy. My burgers come out perfect every time. Cons: I wouldn't call this non stick. Everything you make leaves something on the grill, and you really need to get scrubbing to get it off the hot plates when you're done (I find scrubbing the grime off the plates when it's hot is a lot easier than waiting for it to cool). It's also hard to clean the crevice where hinges are (but it's an open hinge, so solid thing that aren't sticky usually fall through). It's also got a lot of excellent features that make my life easier. I'll mention right now that this is a VERY hot waffle maker. They make the plastic ones to be "cool touch". I'll trade the cool touch feature for the sturdier design of this versatile machine. I'm being careful and haven't burned myself yet. But it's something to consider if you'd like your children making waffles. My ten year old could be careful enough, but I keep my five and eight year olds away. The waffles this machine makes are great! They freeze well too. The family is very happy. When the light goes of the unit is ready to make waffles. He would add cinnamon, fruit, all kinds of things. Never stuck always light and fluffy. When I went to college my odyssey began. I have gone through 4! different brands and here is why you want this machine - Ok Betty Crocker and others may have a beeper but the waffle that comes out could have come out of a toaster, B&D lets you choose on a dark to light waffle 'zone' with a light that goes out when it reaches that temp. Even with a thick from the box batter out came the most fluffy waffle with a Belgium like crust. Take a close look at this baby it's CROME and yes it will get hot, (kids don't touch) but unlike others it CLEANS UP. Overflows are no problem. Just as good a George Forman. And grilled sandwiches were wonderful but I use old world bakery bread with brie and dry salami, again adjust for light and dark. Favorite recipe? We moved into a 3rd floor condo without a place for outside cooking but since we bought this grill I can't say we miss it. This grill heats up extremely well, something my several George Foreman grills didn't do. We like it for steaks and hamburgers, my husband says the ones I do are as good as he did on the grill. It is also very fast; we grill thin steaks in 2-3 minutes; it took 10 minutes on our gas grill. We also like it for grilled sandwiches like Reubens; the bread comes out crisp and the center is completely heated through. We like the temperature choices. It doesn't have removeable plates - nothing to break! They wash off easily; I put wet paper towels in it and let it sit while we eat. I would recommend it to anyone - look for it in the warehouse stores as well. I was seriously disappointed and gave the grill away after 5 uses. 1) My biggest frustration was with the way it cooked. The burgers literally only browned on 1 side! Also they came out not very juicy or succulent even though I experimented with several different cooking times. I had a George Foreman grill in the past and burgers cooked on that grill came out much much better. 2) I found this really unwieldy to manage / clean. I knew the panels didn't come out but on a grill this large, that is a big problem. I'm confused by all the great reviews. I had a George Foreman super basic model before and that was much better.
